According to the latest research report published by CAPA India (Centre for Aviation), the operational commercial aircraft fleet in India is on track to cross 1,000 active aircraft by early 2030, up from approximately 700 airframes in 2024.
The Crew Supply Challenge
The report emphasizes that the primary constraint facing Indian aviation is not capital or passenger demand, but rather the availability of certified, high-caliber aviation personnel:
- Cockpit Crew Requirements: Maintaining 1,000+ active commercial aircraft requires a national pool of over 12,000 active airline pilots adhering to DGCA Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL).
- Cabin Crew Requirements: Airlines will need to onboard over 2,500 new flight attendants annually to support new deliveries and route expansion.
- Flight School Capacity: Domestic flight training capacity in India must expand alongside reliable international training partnerships to prevent pilot supply bottlenecks.
